Diesel and Lung Health

Air pollution is a growing concern across the country and here in Sonoma County. Diesel is a contributor to air pollution, a major trigger for asthma. Because of the mounting evidence of diesel health risks, federal and state agencies have moved to adopt more stringent controls on diesel. The California Air Resources Board has determined that diesel particulates account for 70% of the cancer risk from toxic air contaminants statewide.

In order to address this concern, the Coalition is working is partnership with American Lung Association of California-Redwood Empire Branch to support statewide policies and regulations that require the cleanest and most efficient vehicles in California. The Lung Association is working to reduce the number of diesel vehicles in this county by helping to pass a clean vehicle resolution encouraging the purchase of ultra and super ultra low-emission vehicles for county and city fleets in Sonoma County.
